Nature is as uniform as variant. The idea of nature being uniform has been a common belief for thousands of years. The ancient Greeks believed that nature was made up of four elements: Earth, Air, Fire and Water. In ancient Rome, nature had nine gods associated with the nine planets of the solar system.

In ancient China, these elements were personified by humans. In ancient Egypt, they were personified by animals: the goddesses Isis and Nephthys were associated with Earth and Water respectively and the god Horus was associated with Air and Fire. Aristotle in his book “The History of Animals” stated that “Nature is as uniform as variant” meaning different animals share many similar characteristics in terms of anatomy, movement and behavior.
